Coconut Blossom Sugar

How it’s made

Neera, the nectar sap of the coconut flower blossom is harvested two times a day by our coconut farmers. Farmers climb the coconut palms and collect the sugar blossom nectar by gently slicing the flower. Once harvested the nectar is transferred into kettles. The evaporation process lowers the moisture content of the nectar before it is allowed to set into a solid nectar “brick”. The nectar sap is then boiled down until they thicken and change colour from translucent to brown, then granulated by hand and further to specifications.

Our Pure Coconut Sugar is all-natural, has no preservatives, no additives, no artificial flavors or colorings, no chemicals, no bleaching, no anti fermenting agent and no synthetic adulterants are used.

Common misconception

Coconut sugar is sometimes confused with Brown, Aren, or Arenga Sugar to the naked eye. Arenga sugar is another type of sweetener that derives from a different kind of palm tree (Arenga Pinnata) and yield a very distinctly different product. Arenga wears a much darker brown colour, sometimes appearing black-tinted (thus its common name in some places, ‘Black Sugar Palm’); coconut sugar owns a brown that ranges from bright yellow to reddish brown. In aroma, coconut sugar also displays caramel aroma notes not found in Arenga Sugar. The same caramel notes in sweetness is found in coconut sugar that are not found in Arenga sugar.
